Symptoms of a Worn Link Rod

• Knocking over speed bumps The most reported symptom. Every time the suspension compresses and rebounds over a bump, the worn joint knocks. The sound is typically sharp and repetitive — one knock per bump, coming from the corner of the vehicle where the worn link rod sits.
• Rattling on rough roads On uneven surfaces, the continuous suspension movement causes a worn link rod joint to rattle. This sound can be difficult to locate precisely and is often mistaken for a loose heat shield or exhaust component.
• Clunking when turning Body roll during cornering loads the anti-roll bar and the link rods. A worn link rod produces a noticeable clunk when turning — particularly on tighter turns or when the vehicle body shifts weight during a lane change.
• Increased body roll during cornering If a link rod has separated entirely, the anti-roll bar is no longer connected on that side. The vehicle leans noticeably more in corners than it should — a handling change that is particularly obvious when compared to how the car previously felt.

The Replacement Process at Marwat Garage Ajman

Link rod replacement is a relatively accessible service once the vehicle is on a lift.

The wheel on the affected side is removed to allow clear access. The link rod is unbolted from the anti-roll bar and the suspension strut, inspected alongside the anti-roll bar bush condition, and replaced with a quality component.

Both ends of the new link rod are torqued to specification with the suspension at ride height — not with the suspension hanging freely, which would put the joint under stress in its resting position.

Because link rods work in pairs, we always inspect both sides when one has failed. If the opposite side shows wear, replacing both at the same time is more cost-effective than a return visit shortly after.

The service takes approximately four hours. A one-month warranty is provided on replacement components.
